Her famous locks are still flowing but green scales on her head are a clue that Eleanor Tomlinson’s new alter-ego is certainly no Demelza.
Poldark star Eleanor plays a gun-toting drug mule on the run in upcoming sci-fi series Intergalactic.
As our exclusive pictures show, she could barely be more different to the corset-loving do-gooder she played alongside Aidan Turner, 37, in Poldark.
But then he’s had a transformation too, with full beard for his role as Leonardo da Vinci in his new TV series for Amazon.
Eleanor’s character Candy is a convict from a planet called Skov, where a new species of human has evolved.
As well as the scales she has a forked tongue which can smell the environment and sense people’s emotions.
The high-octane drama, set in 2143, launches next Friday on Sky One and NOW. It tells the story of a prison spaceship taken over by convicts – with perilous results. Eleanor, 28, says it’s one of her toughest roles.
Much of the set was on rigs, which shook to mimic turbulence. Then there was handling a gun and portraying a druggie.
Eleanor says: “My greatest challenge was creating the Candy that is drugged up, as that’s not something I’ve had experience in. I hadn’t worked with many guns before and now have a fear of loud bangs. At first you think it’s cool to fire a machine-gun.
“After six months, when they’re fired above your head, I’m terrified as you don’t know when it’ll go off.”
But she loved the role, adding: “It was nice to lose myself in a character and it’s amazing to take on something so completely different.”
She is now filming new show The Offenders alongside Christopher Walken and Stephen Merchant, for the BBC and Amazon.
The actress split from actor Harry Richardson in 2018. She is rumoured to be dating rugby player Will Owen, 26.
