Poldark's Aidan Turner teases potential return to BBC drama - but not as we know it

Aidan Turner has teased a potential return to playing Captain Ross in Poldark.

The actor starred as Captain Ross Vennor Poldark in the BBC drama until it ended after five series, but Aidan has teased that there could be a potential return for Ross one day - but not as we know him. At the end of the fifth series, Ross promised Demelza Poldark, played by Eleanor Tomlinson, that he would come back one day.

However, Aidan has hinted that there may be a small chance of him coming back to the show, as there is still more of the books yet to be explored and adapted for TV. However, he knows his character will be much older by then.

Speaking to Radio Times, he said: "There are some books ... I need to check what books they are. I think Ross is quite a bit older. I think Jeremy, Ross’s son, he’s 16 or 18 or something. And I think when we left Ross, I think Jeremy might only be 10. I’m not quite sure."

Aidan had previously revealed he "fought" to keep his shirt on on the show.

"It began to overshadow the show and that frustrated me. It just got boring. They were trying to make me take another dip in the sea, but it's not in the books. I’m certainly fighting the cause to keep my clothes on," he said of the interest in his body.

He played Captain Ross Poldark alongside Eleanor Tomlinson, who starred as Demelza (PA)

However, he insists he has never felt "objectified" by fans despite the constant references to his shirtless self.

Aidan said: "Was it safer to make a big deal of this photograph because it was a young man? Would it have been handled the same way in the press if it was a young woman? I don't know. Possibly not. But I didn't feel objectified."

The infamous shirtless photo actually featured someone else in the snap, but they were edited out.

Aidan is back on our screens soon in The Suspect (ITV)

"The first thing I think of when I see the photograph is that they airbrushed out the make-up artist who was covering a tattoo. I always think of Jacquie Fowler and how she didn't make that photograph. She was right there, painting out a tattoo," he recalled.

He has since had the tattoo - which he got with friends on holiday - removed.

Aidan can next be seen in new ITV drama, The Suspect.
