Poldark's Aidan Turner spent last day filming 'intimate and poignant' bedroom scenes

After years of melodrama and passion, the two stars of Poldark have built up an endearing bond – which made filming of the final scenes just a tad emotional.

Aidan Turner, 36, said it felt right the final day involved “intimate” scenes between him and screen wife Eleanor Tomlinson, 27.

The actor said he would “miss everybody” on the BBC drama’s fifth and final series.

He said: “It’s brilliant, it’s always been amazing. You click with somebody on set and we always have.

“Our last day was just myself and Eleanor doing some bedroom scenes. It was quite intimate and quite lovely and it seemed to make sense that it was just the two of us. It was very poignant.”

He said the screen couple’s tumultuous relationship is still going strong, adding: “They’ve overcome a lot and they’re in a good place by the end of the series.”

Turner, who has played dashing Cornish hero Ross Poldark since 2015, admitted he took a memento from the Nampara set to remember his happy years there with Demelza.

The Irish heart-throb, a frontrunner to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond, said: “I took the kitchen table and the benches. It’s all in my house in London.”

Jack Farthing, who plays dastardly George Warleggan, picked one of his character’s black suits as a keepsake.

And Ellise Chappell took damaged wife Morwenna Carne’s shell bracelet – last seen being hurled into the sea.

In the final series, Ross is recruited as a spy for the government while Dr Dwight Enys, played by Luke Norris, treats his arch-enemy George for madness, following the death of his wife Elizabeth in childbirth.

The series bridges the 10-year gap between the seventh and eighth books by Winston Graham, with fans hoping the BBC will bring the show back.

Poldark returns to BBC1 on July 14.
