Polar plume brings snow and ice to Scotland as temperature plummet over Easter break

Scots are being warned to gear up for winter weather as a freezing polar plume looms across the UK.

Today may have marked the formal beginning of British Summer time, but a thick frost was seen across the country.

The polar plume from Iceland is set to bring snow, sleet and rain from Tuesday next week, with the coldest regions of northern Scotland expecting the mercury to plummet to as low as -5C.

The bad weather is predicted to continue until Friday, as Europe enjoys a heatwave.

Overnight today the Met Office is warning of frost in places following clear spells, particularly northern Scotland, although it will be cloudier and breezier in the northwest later.

They add that despite lighter winds tomorrow, there will be some heavy with hail, sleet or hill snow, especially in the north. the forecaster says it will stay cold throughout the week.

The RAC have also warned of wild conditions hitting the Easter holidays for families using popular road routes.
