Poker player eliminates WSOP Main Event opponent with pocket queens after bizarrely folding them earlier

There are just three players left in the 2019 World Series of Poker Main Event.

Hossein Ensan is the chip leader at 326.8 million. In third place is Dario Sammartino, the same player who argued with officials when a dealer mistakenly miscounted the chips on an all-in call earlier in the tournament.

And in second with 120.4 million is Alex Livingston, who eliminated Garry Gates with pocket Queens to a pair of 6s.

Now, that may not sound important, but it’s kind of funny that hand is what did it.

Just a couple of days ago, at the final table, Livingston had pocket Queens and raised. Gates then raised again with pocket 10s and Sammartino had pocket 8s. It was setting up to be an epic hand … but then Livingston somehow threw away his Queens and Sammartino folded.

People were kind of mystified and Livingston joked about it in a tweet afterwards:

Funny enough, someone dug up a video of Livingston not folding Queens at the Main Event in 2013 and losing, so maybe that’s why he folded them in that case:

Fast-forward back to Monday night:

That worked out!
