Pokémon Z-A leaks suggest all Mega evolutions are returning except one glaring omission

Today, a new batch of Pokémon Legends: Z-A leaks is coming from the game's 1.0.1 patch, which some players online claim to have their hands on. Among the most surprising reveals, Pokémon dataminer Kaphotics pointed out that Legends: Z-A could release without Mega Rayquaza.

Kaphotics pulled all Pokémon moves in the game files, and Rayquaza's signature attack, Dragon Ascent, is not on the list. This move has been exclusive to Rayquaza since it got its Mega form in Generation six, and the Legendary Pokémon has never been seen without Dragon Ascent in its move pool.

If accurate, this information all but confirms that Rayquaza and its Mega form will not be available when Legends: Z-A releases.

Other data backs up this claim. The form reversion table Kaphotics pulled from the Legends: Z-A files also suggests Mega Rayquaza is missing. This table shows Pokémon that have multiple forms that are reverted when they're moved to the box, like Castform's weather forms and Darmanitan's Zen Mode. Mega Evolutions count as a reversible form, so all Mega Pokémon revealed so far, such as Malamar, Hawlucha, and Victreebel, are on this list. Rayquaza isn't, so it shouldn't have extra forms aside from its base looks as of Z-A patch 1.0.1.

That doesn't mean Mega Rayquaza will never be in the game. Raichu is also absent from the form reversion list, but The Pokémon Company has confirmed Mega Raichu X and Y will come out with the Mega Dimensions DLC on February 28, 2026. So, it's reasonable to think that Mega Rayquaza could also become available with the DLC.

Take those leaks with a grain of salt. While Kaphotics is a reliable dataminer, all the information they've published is unconfirmed and subject to change until Pokémon Legends: Z-A comes out.

But I don't see The Pokémon Company giving up on Mega Rayquaza on Legends: Z-A, which is why I believe in the theory that it's coming in a future DLC. Rayquaza is one of the most liked legendaries in the series: it was the #8 overall Pokémon of the Year in 2020 and #1 from the Hoenn region. It's more likely that The Pokémon Company is delaying its launch to drive DLC sales than leaving it out of the game entirely.
