'Pokémon Winds and Waves': Fans Share Their Dream Pikachu Clone Ideas

"Pokémon Winds and Waves" fans are already imagining what the next Pikachu clone could look like.

Since every mainline Pokémon generation has introduced a lovable Electric-type mascot inspired by Pikachu, many players expect the tradition to continue. This time, however, fans are hoping Game Freak takes a more creative approach.

A recent Reddit thread invited players to share their ideas for the next Pikachu clone.

Capybara Tops Fans' Wish List

Among the most popular suggestions was a Capybara-inspired Pikachu clone, according to a Reddit discussion.

Many players believe the world's largest rodent would translate perfectly into the Pokémon universe thanks to its calm personality and instantly recognizable appearance. Fans also proposed several type combinations, with Electric/Water and Electric/Ground emerging as the favorites to reflect the capybara's semi-aquatic lifestyle.

Some even joked that a relaxed, easygoing capybara Pokémon would become an instant fan favorite.

Southeast Asian Animals Inspire New Pokémon Concepts

Several fans looked to real-world wildlife for inspiration, suggesting lesser-known animals that have never appeared in the "Pokémon" series.

One proposal featured Prevost's giant squirrel, a colorful species native to Southeast Asia. Some players envisioned it as a regional evolution or variant of Pachirisu, giving the existing Electric-type squirrel a fresh redesign.

Another idea centered on the Sulawesi shrew rat, an unusual rodent known for its distinctive feeding habits. Fans imagined it as an Electric/Ground-type Pokémon with powerful digging abilities and oversized fangs.

These concepts highlight the community's interest in seeing Game Freak explore wildlife from different parts of the world.

Fans Call for Evolutions Instead of Another Pikachu Clone

Not everyone wants a brand-new mascot Pokémon.

Some players argued that Game Freak should revisit older Electric-type Pokémon by giving them long-awaited evolutions. "Pokémon" frequently mentioned included Morpeko, Pachirisu, Plusle, and Minun, all of which remain single-stage Pokémon despite their popularity.

Many fans praised Pawmot for breaking the long-standing tradition by evolving into a three-stage line. They hope future mascot Pokémon will continue that trend rather than remaining standalone companions.

Creative Type Combinations Capture Attention

Beyond animal choices, fans also proposed several unique type combinations.

Ideas included an Electric/Grass lemur, an Electric/Grass cloud rat covered in moss, and an Electric/Ghost bat inspired by supernatural folklore. Others suggested a Poison-type bat to create a distinct alternative to Emolga.

One nostalgic player even revived the long-running fan concept known as "Pikablue," imagining it as a Water-type Pokémon in a future generation.

Pokémon Fans Hope For Fresh Ideas in 'Winds and Waves'

While Pikachu clones have become a tradition, some fans believe it's time for Game Freak to move in a different direction. Rather than introducing another Electric-type mascot, they hope the Gen 10 game focuses on stronger storytelling, more original Pokémon designs, and innovative gameplay features.
