'Pokémon Winds and Waves' Fans Create Overpowered Custom Abilities For Competitive Battles

The "Pokémon" community is no stranger to creative ideas, especially when it comes to imagining new battle mechanics.

A recent fan discussion showed players pushing that creativity to the limit by designing custom Pokémon abilities that are intentionally overpowered, hilarious, and built to change competitive battles.

Although these abilities are purely fan-made and have no connection to official "Pokémon" games, the discussion quickly gained attention as players shared increasingly outrageous concepts. It would be interesting if at least one ability could make its way to "Winds and Waves."

Fans Design Game-Breaking Pokémon Abilities

The original Reddit thread introduced several powerful abilities that would dramatically alter battles.

One concept, Perfect Body, grants complete immunity to all physical attacks. Its counterpart, Perfect Mind, blocks every special attack, while Perfect Spirit prevents all status conditions and status moves from affecting the user.

Another great idea was Overcharged, an ability that triples every stat after the Pokémon takes damage for the first time. If introduced into the games, it would instantly become one of the strongest abilities in competitive Pokémon.

Other concepts focused on unique interactions. Rotten spoils every held Berry on the battlefield, eliminating recovery strategies, while Little Guy guarantees that smaller Pokémon always move first regardless of Speed.

Double Battles Receive Creative New Mechanics

Several fan-made abilities were specifically designed for Double Battles.

Life Support prevents allied Pokémon from fainting as long as the user remains on the field, creating powerful defensive strategies. Meanwhile, Inspire randomly grants a sharply boosted stat to every active Pokémon, including opponents, whenever its user enters battle.

These mechanics would introduce a level of unpredictability rarely seen in official Pokémon games.

Fans Push Competitive Battles Into Complete Chaos

As the discussion continued, the ideas became even more extreme.

One proposal, Massive Strength, allows physical attacks to hit every opposing Pokémon simultaneously. Similar versions extended the effect to special attacks and status moves.

Another popular suggestion, Built Different, completely reverses status conditions. Paralysis would increase Speed instead of lowering it, burns would boost physical attacks rather than weaken them, and poison would restore HP every turn.

Some concepts embraced pure randomness. Roulette causes one random active Pokémon to faint at the end of every turn, while No Safe Space allows attacks to target benched Pokémon.

Another ability, Till Death Do Us Part, guarantees that the opposing Pokémon faints if its user is knocked out.

Fans Want Stronger Signature Abilities for Mythical Pokémon

The conversation also turned toward mythical Pokémon, with many players suggesting they deserve more distinctive signature abilities.

For Mew, fans proposed Mewtation, a powerful combination of Protean and Adaptability that would make the legendary Pokémon even more versatile.

Meanwhile, Celebi received an ability that automatically creates Psychic Terrain upon entering battle and switches between Psychic and Grassy Terrain depending on the move selected. Combined with moves like Expanding Force and Grassy Glide, the concept could create unpredictable strategies and stronger battlefield control.

Before we see the Gen 10 developments, we could only assume that the game's quality would be polished, as fans didn't like the treatment that "Scarlet and Violet" received.
