The "Pokémon TCG Pocket" just got a whole lot more thrilling with the much-awaited debut of the Legendary Beasts from Generation 2.
The new mini-expansion, Secluded Springs, comes out on Aug. 28, bringing new digital cards, stunning artwork, and post-launch events that no fan will want to miss.
Mini-Expansion Full of Nostalgia

Secluded Springs comes as a sequel to the Wisdom of Sea and Sky expansion, which featured the mythical pair Ho-Oh and Lugia. Although the complete card list is not out yet, this set will be significantly smaller compared to the colossal 241-card predecessor. It promises fans something akin to the tight mini-sets like Extradimensional Crisis or Eevee Grove.
Centering this release are the Pokémon EX forms of the legendary Legendary Beasts Entei, Suicune, and Raikou. The set takes everyone by surprise with inclusions of Latios and Latias, as well as Baby Pokémon like Mantyke, which brings variety and flair to the set.
Stunning New Pokémon Card Art
Developer DeNA maintains its habit of partnering with talented artists to provide classic card art. Secluded Springs features a peaceful hot springs environment, and this is the most Johto feature you will see in the region.
Here, you will see a card art of a watercolor Slowking taking it easy by a stream. There's also a reverent Slugma looking into frothing hot water and an image of awestruck villagers gazing up at an ancient Milotic mural.
CNET says that this slice-of-life artwork is a homage to the cultural heritage of Johto, recalling the peaceful, traditional world that fans first saw in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. For some players, these designs are as enchanting as seeing Pokémon in the real world for the first time.
Why Johto Still Resonates With Fans
The second generation of Pokémon games is nostalgic to every Pokémon fan. While infamous for having a difficult leveling curve, it added to the universe with new regions to explore, plus the shiny Pokémon, egg hatching, and retained beloved Kanto post-game.
Whereas Kanto's industrialized, fast-paced vibe was something else, Johto was distinct for its spiritual and naturalistic vibe. Secluded Springs retains that same eternal appeal, producing cards that are both nostalgic and rejuvenating.
Upcoming Secluded Springs Events
The expansion is not limited to new cards, however. From Aug. 31, "Pokémon TCG Pocket" players can unlock a Suicune-themed binder cover and display background. September sees an onslaught of events, including:
- Water-Type Mass Outbreaks
- Zoroark Promo Drop Event
- Miltank & Phanpy Wonder Pick Event
- Weekly Challenges
- New Stardust Trades
