Pokémon Scarlet and Violet item duplication glitch: the fastest method to clone items

The dismal technical state of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has not diminished the games’ popularity, and besides all its drawbacks, it does have its advantages for resourceful players, just like the double run speed and hill climb bugs. A newly discovered exploit now lets you duplicate items in the game in a very simple way.

Item duplication glitch method in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Before you start this exploit, make sure there are empty slots in Box 1 of your Pokémon Storage System, and that your Legendary Riding Pokémon Koraidon or Miraidon in Battle Form is on your active team.

Then follow these steps to clone items:

1. Give Koraidon or Miraidon the item you want to clone.
2. Press the + button to ride Koraidon or Miraidon and then again to dismount.
3. Change Koraidon or Miraidon back to Battle Form.
4. Catch a wild Pokémon and add it to your active team, selecting Koraidon’s or Miraidon’s spot.
5. Press the A and B buttons almost simultaneously, but start with A.
6. In the ensuing dialog, decide to store the item in the bag.
7. Press the + button to ride Koraidon or Miraidon and then again to dismount.
8. Open Box 1 and replace the freshly caught Pokémon with the now cloned version of Koraidon or Miraidon.
9. Give the cloned Koraidon or Miraidon the item you want to duplicate.
10. Select the cloned Koraidon or Miraidon in your team overview and transform it to the Riding Form.
11. Open Box 1 again and press the X button twice to return to Team 1.
12. Press the L button to open the box with Koraidon or Miraidon holding the cloned item.
13. Select the Pokémon and choose the option to put the item away.
14. Repeat steps 8 through 13 to continue cloning the held item.

German YouTuber ‘DrWater’ discovered the glitch and explains it in great detail in this video.

You can easily get rid of the excess clones of the Legendary Pokémon by packing five of them into your team and filling the sixth slot with a regular monster. Then switch from the Riding Form to the Battle Form. Each switch should clear one of the clones.

Whatever rare or useful items you want to duplicate in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, this trick is currently the fastest method – it’s especially worthwhile for Tera Shards, which you can otherwise only get from Tera Raids. How long the glitch will remain in the game before the developer rolls out an update with a fix is not clear, so you better get cloning soon.
