'Pokémon GO Steel and Scales' Guide: How to Catch Shiny Rookidee

Rookidee will be your fan-favorite partner soon. Although the base species and its evolutions, Corvisquire and Corviknight, joined "Pokémon GO" in January's Steeled Resolve event, Shiny versions weren't available until now.

From July 22 to 27, players worldwide will see increased Rookidee spawns during the "Ultra Unlock: Steel and Scales" event. This is your prime opportunity to snag its Shiny variant.

Where to Find Shiny Rookidee During Ultra Unlock

During the event, you'll encounter more of the following Pokémon in the wild, according to GameRant. The last two are rarer, so keep your eyes peeled.

  • Rookidee
  • Bagon
  • Beldum
  • Dratini
  • Magnemite
  • Aron
  • Ferroseed
  • Noibat
  • Axew
  • Goomy

Even though Rookidee typically likes windy weather, it will show up regularly regardless of the conditions during the event. It will not appear in Raid Battles, so your best option is walking and wandering instead of standing around.

To increase your encounter rate, skip specialty lures such as Mossy or Magnetic, walk while activating incense, and utilize regular (purple) lure modules on PokéStops.

It's recommended to turn on AR Mode to accelerate shiny checks by bypassing encounter loading time.

Even if you are late and miss this week-long opportunity, no need to panic. Shiny Rookidee will stay in the game after the event, although with a decreased spawn rate and reliance on weather and upcoming events.

Should You Evolve Shiny Rookidee?

If you're lucky enough to grab a Shiny Rookidee, evolving it can be both a collector's move and a strategic play. Here's what you'll need for the upcoming "Ultra Unlock: Steel and Scales."

  • 25 Rookidee Candy to evolve into Shiny Corvisquire
  • 100 Rookidee Candy to reach Shiny Corviknight

The event doesn't offer extra Candy bonuses, so use Pinap Berries or Silver Pinaps to double your Candy gains.

Evolving a Shiny registers all three forms in your Shiny Pokédex, but if you're looking for battle usability—to use against Team GO Rocket, PvP, or defending gyms, wait until you get a high-IV (ideally 3-star) Shiny before evolving. A 2-star with good Defense stats can also be considered if you don't have much else to choose from.

In the meantime, if ever you're unlucky in hunting the Shiny Galarian bird, you can test your second luck with Ditto and its disguises.
