Pokémon Go fifth anniversary even - here's what we know

Starting today, trainers around the world will be able to catch some rare Pokémon as part of the Pokémon GO fifth anniversary event.

The rare finds will include a flying Pikachu with a 5-shaped balloon and a shiny Daramuka, there's a higher chance of these two appearing in the wild.

However, if you're more keen on taking part in raids you're in luck, Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie and the even special Pikachu and Daramuka will be up for grabs in one star raids.

There will also be a collection challenge for trainers to get involved in, to partake in this challenge, trainers must either catch a certain amount of Pokémon or use a certain amount of lures.

Once these prerequisites are met and trainers catch all 19 Pokémon in the challenge, they will be rewarded with three rare candies, 80 PokéBalls and a Flying Pikachu encounter.

How to increase your chances in completing the challenge

All of the starter Pokémon are required to complete the collection challenge, they can be attracted with lure modules during the fifth anniversary event.

Trainers who may not be able to go on the move can still increase their chances of completing the event by using a remote raid pass which allows you to join a raid from any distance.

Incense is very important if you want to catch a lot of Pokémon in a short amount of time, this item will attract Pokémon to your location.

If you're struggling to catch a Pokémon, stop wasting PokéBalls and use a Nanab or Razz berry which increases your chances of successfully catching a Pokémon.

Don't ignore research tasks, most of the Pokémon on the collection challenge can be collected this way.

Other things to look forward to in the fifth anniversary

While the Flying Pikachu and Shiny Darumaka are the highlights of the event, trainers can also encounter a shiny Meltan which may appear if you activate the Mystery Box during the fifth anniversary event.

Any player who missed the special research questline last year won't be left out in this event, the Jump-Start Special Research will automatically unlock for any player who logs in during the event.
