‘Pokémon GO’ Charmander Community Day: ‘A Tale Of Tales’ Special Research Steps, Rewards And Mega Energy

It’s a crisp day here on the East Coast, the sort of day that you just might find a shiny, fiery salamander wandering the streets. It’s Charmander Community Day today, offering people a second opportunity to stock up on rare Black Charizards after the little critter’s first Community Day way back when. Things have evolved since then, however, and now we’ve got these purchasable Special Research tasks in the shop underpinning things. Today’s is called “A Tale of Tails”, celebrating Charizard’s unique flame.

Normally, we wouldn’t be able to know these steps until Community Day starts, but thanks to the magic of time zones we’re able to get a sneak peak. This information comes via the community at Silph Road and original poster TornadoJ88. Let’s take a loot at the steps and rewards, including some much-needed mega energy.

Step 1:

  • Power up a Pokémon 10 time: 10 Pokéballs
  • Catch 15 Charmander: 20 Charmander Candy
  • Make 5 Nice Throws: Charmander encounter
  • Step Rewards: 200 Stardust, 1 incense, Charmander encounter

Step 2:

  • Catch 15 Charmander: 20 charmander Candy
  • Transfer 10 Pokémon: Charmeleon Encounter
  • Evolve 3 Pokemon: 1000 Xp
  • Step Rewards: 2000 Stardust, 1 incense, 1 Poffin

Step 3:

  • Make 3 great curveball throws: 20 Charmander candy
  • Evolve 1 Charmeleon: 5 Golden Razzberries
  • Transfer 10 Pokémon: 1500 XP
  • Step Rewards: 200 Stardust, 1 incense, 1 Rocket Radar

Step 4:

  • Make 15 nice throws: 5 Silver Pinap Berries
  • Take a snapshot of a Fire-type Pokémon: 1500 XP
  • Power up Pokémon 10 times: 5000 Stardust
  • Step rewards: 2000 Stardust, 3 Rare Candy, Charizard Encounter

Step 5:

  • Claim Reward: Charizard Mega Energy
  • Claim Reward: Charizard Mega Energy
  • Claim Reward: Charizard Mega Energy
  • Step Rewards: 2000 Stardust, 3000 XP, 150 Charizard Mega Energy

I’m very pleased to see Mega Energy showing up on this list, mostly because I can’t stand the whole Mega system and have barely interacted with it, but would still sort of like to fill in what parts of that Pokédex I can. While I haven’t been a huge fan of some of Niantic’s recent monetization strategies in Pokémon GO—looking at you, Strange Eggs—these little research tasks have always been a solid way to pay a small amount of money for an extra experience with clearly delineated rewards.
