"Pokémon GO" is rolling out a fresh week-long Summer Marathon event, giving players a brand new Shiny to hunt for the very first time in the game's history.
The event blends fire- and ice-themed spawns together, giving trainers plenty of reasons to head outside before the week wraps up.
'Pokémon GO' New Shiny to Catch in Summer Marathon Event
Niantic confirmed that "Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers" introduces Shiny Snom to "Pokémon GO" for the first time ever. The Ice and Bug-type Worm Pokémon, originally introduced in the Galar region, trades its usual blue and white coloring for a warmer, frosted look once its Shiny form appears in-game.
The event ties into Niantic's ongoing Summer Marathon format, a recurring series of themed, week-long chapters running throughout the northern hemisphere summer.
Each of these upcoming chapters is carrying its own GO Pass and a rotating lineup of debuts and Shiny releases rather than functioning as one single mega event.
As implied by the event's name, the "Arctic Embers" theme under the Summer Marathon event will feature the contrasting types of Fire and Ice in the game. This also features an iconic form that was previously a Fire-type in Kanto but transformed to an Ice-type in Alola.
How to Catch Snom in 'Pokémon GO'?
Trainers have two main paths to finding Shiny Snom during the event. It can appear as a reward for completing "Pokémon GO's" GO Pass tasks, or it can hatch directly from 5 km Eggs collected throughout the event window.
Alongside Snom, several other Pokémon are getting boosted Shiny rates during the event, including Ponyta, Slugma, Snover, and Vanillite. Keep in mind that the expected Shiny rate for these boosted Pokémon is around 1.6%, roughly eight times higher than the standard wild Shiny rate of about 0.2%.
Once caught, Snom evolves into Frosmoth after earning 10 Buddy Hearts with it set as a Buddy Pokémon, then evolving it at night using 400 Snom Candy.
Frosmoth carries real value beyond just being a collectible too, holding up as a solid Ice-type attacker in both raid battles and the Great League.
'Pokémon GO' Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers
"Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers" runs from Tuesday, August 4 at 10:00 a.m. local time through Monday, August 10 at 8:00 p.m. local time. Wild encounters rotate by date throughout the event, with Ponyta and Snover appearing on August 4, 6, 8, and 10, while Slugma and Vanillite take over on August 5, 7, 9, and 10.
Other event-themed Pokémon, including Vulpix, Alolan Vulpix, Growlithe, Swinub, and Snorunt, will also show up more frequently in the wild throughout the week.
A free Timed Research track is also available, rewarding players with a Marathon Sun Cap Pikachu encounter along with 16,800 XP once completed, though the tasks expire once the event ends regardless of progress.
A limited-time GO Pass runs alongside the event as well, with a $4.99 GO Pass Deluxe option offering upgraded rewards and faster progression for players who want to speed through the track.
The event overlaps with the tail end of Gigantamax Rillaboom's ongoing debut window and leads directly into a Fire and Ice-themed Hatch Day scheduled for August 8, making the first full week of August especially busy for active trainers.
