Pokémon fans could be sitting on 'millions of pounds' as rarest card worth £1.3 million

If you still have your Pokémon cards, you could be sitting on a mountain of cash without even knowing it.

Back in the day, Pokémon cards was an essential part of many childhoods and if you got one, you wanted to catch them all.

And if you remember where your cards are, you could be in for a healthy pay day if you get on Ebay.

This comes as one rare card is worth a whopping £1.3 million.

According to money.co.uk, Pokémon cards have gone from a kids collection to an 'unorthodox investment' with high profile social media stars like Logan Paul drawing attention to the craze.

The YouTube star has revealed that he owns the most valuable card of all which is worth £3.8m however there are numerous other cards on the market worth shed loads.

The rarest card that Pokémon fans should keep a beady eye on it the ' Japanese Old Back Pokemon Trophy Card NO.2 Neo Spring Battle PSA Mint 9 Pikachu ' -thought to be worth a humble £1.3m.

Coming in second is the ‘ PSA 10 Trophy Kangaskhan Parent & Child Tournament 1998 ' which is worth a sizeable £395,000.

And the ' Machamp 1st Edition Base Set Holographic Pokemon Card PSA Unconfirmed ’ is worth a more modest £30,000.

Florence Codjoe, finance expert at money.co.uk explained why the booming market had come about.

She said: "The nostalgia of Pokémon combined with the iconic characters have certainly recaptured the imagination of many people - so much so, they are willing to spend thousands, if not millions to ‘catch them all.'

"But before thinking about buying (or in fact selling your own) Pokémon cards, there are some things to consider:

"Black symbols in the bottom corner of cards indicate their rarity and therefore value. A circle means common, a diamond means uncommon, a star means rare and a white or gold star means ultra-rare. Holographic cards are also typically worth more.

"It’s not simply a buy and sell exchange with Pokémon cards - don’t forget about shipping fees, taxes on sales, and costs to keep it in ‘mint’ condition. Maintaining rare/valuable cards is essential to ensuring its value if you want to resell in the future.”
