Pointless star Richard Osman, 6ft 6in, splits from 5ft 2in jazz singer girlfriend

TV giant Richard Osman is no longer fully eye to eye with his tiny jazz singer girlfriend.

The 6ft 6in Pointless star and 5ft 2in Sumudu Jayatilaka have separated after more than a year together.

A source says: “They have decided they are better off as friends. There is no ill feeling between them.”

The pair first stepped out publicly in February of last year after attending a sports quiz held at chart topper James Blunt’s pub in Chelsea, West London.

They were introduced by mutual friends after his split from radio star Emily Dean.

Sumudu, 40, said: “We’re very happy.”

Osman, 49, said their height difference was never been an issue.

He recalled: “I just looked down and there she was. I’m always looking down. Everybody is short to me.”

One of daytime TV’s biggest stars, he created BBC1 quiz show Pointless, which he co-hosts with comedy actor Alexander Armstrong.

With thick-rimmed specs, Osman was once crowned “Britain’s weirdest crush” and has two children from a previous relationship.

He is also an acclaimed author having landed a £1million publishing deal for his debut novel The Thursday Murder Club, a whimsical whodunnit about a group of four 80-year-olds friends who meet every week to solve crimes in a Home Counties retirement village.

Sumudu, a Yorkshire-born former medical student, made her singing debut aged 15 performing one of her own songs on the BBC.

Now she appears at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club among others.

Neither responded to requests for comment today.
