Poetry Day Ireland is set to take place as a virtual festival as the country battles with the deadly coronavirus.
Now in its sixth year, the festival is an annual celebration of the spoken and written word and will take place on April 30.
Now poetry lovers will be able to take part from the safety and comfort of their own home as the festival will feature virtual poetry workshops, video poetry readings, social media, and much more.
Events include Poetry Day Ireland Virtual Pub Quiz, First in Line! Online Poetry Workshop for Beginners, and video readings from the shortlisted poets for The Moth Poetry Prize in the run up to the live announcement of the winner of the €10,000 prize.
This year’s theme for Poetry Day Ireland is “There Will Be Time” which was partly chosen last autumn because of the extra day we gain because of the leap year.
But now the theme of time has taken on another significant meaning because of the impact of the COVID-19 restrictions and how it has affected our sense of time.
