Poet Eavan Boland dies aged 75 at her home in Dublin

Poet Eavan Boland has passed away at the age of 75.

The Lannan Award and Jacob's Award winner passed away at her home in Dublin following a stroke.

Ms Boland's poetry has been passed down through generations of the Irish public through the Leaving Certificate, with her work often featuring during the English exam.

Ms Boland had been working as a professor at Stanford University in California since 1996.

"We are shocked to hear of the death of Hon. MRIA Eavan Boland and our thoughts are with her family, RIP" wrote the Royal Irish Academy on Twitter.

"She was a pleasure to work with and is pictured below at the UN reading her poem about women's suffrage 'Our future will become the past of other women'."
