Recently fired Detroit Lions coach Matt Patricia could absolutely return to the New England Patriots. But he’s not going to make a ceremonious return.
Unfortunately for Patricia, if he does return to the Patriots, he would not jump back into his old position as defensive coordinator. It looks like Bill Belichick is grooming his son, Steve Belichick, for that job. Steve is calling defensive plays, and is likely to get a promotion over the next year or two.
But I do see a way for Patricia to return to New England. It would mean he had to eat a slice of humble pie. So we discussed Patricia’s potential return.
