The New England Patriots were always going to have a tough decision to make, ever since they drafted Mac Jones at 15th overall after re-signing Cam Newton to an incentive-laden deal. The Patriots were setting themselves up for a quarterback competition.
On one hand, Newton deserves another shot at starting after a season where New England surrounded the quarterback with an extremely underwhelming supporting cast. The Patriots stocked up on skill players, who can help Newton bounce back. But if Jones is playing at a higher level, he will start. So it’s just a question of how quickly the Patriots can get the rookie up to speed where they trust him.
