Podcast: Westbrook’s home debut, Rockets’ defensive woes, and more

Thursday’s episode of the Locked on Rockets podcast with host Jackson Gatlin and analyst Ben DuBose breaks down the latest issues surrounding the Houston Rockets.

Featured topics include reasons behind the team’s subpar defensive showing in Wednesday’s 128-114 preseason loss to San Antonio, and whether there’s concern after an inefficient home debut for Russell Westbrook (5-of-13 shooting, eight turnovers).

Other points of discussion are Mike D’Antoni’s decision to insert 6-foot-6 wing Danuel House Jr. into the starting lineup at small forward over 6-foot-3 guard Eric Gordon, and more brilliance from James Harden (40 points, 10 rebounds) as the regular season nears.

The next time Harden, Westbrook, and the Rockets play at Toyota Center will be when the games actually count. That comes next Thursday, Oct. 24, when Houston opens the 2019-20 regular season at home in a nationally televised game versus the Milwaukee Bucks.

That game will feature the NBA’s last three Most Valuable Player (MVP) winners in Westbrook, Harden, and Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo. With only one week and one preseason game left to go, this Thursday’s podcast explores how far the Rockets still have to go to be ready against an opponent that won 60 games last season.
