PODCAST: MDMflow Is Building A Beauty Brand To Flatter All Skin Shades

Blue, orange and black are just a few of the stand-out lip colors Florence (Flow) Adepoju created for the beauty company she founded, MDMflow. Launched in 2013, Adepoju was whipping up luxury lipsticks, one at a time by hand, in her parents’ garden shed while studying cosmetic science at London College of Fashion.
Prior to enrolling in school, she worked at a makeup counter and was struck by the lack of lipstick colors flattering to women of color. When many eager customers with darker skin tones sought out her recommendations she realized she had an underserved demographic and captive customer. Now, her bold colors, inspired by 90s hip-hop culture, are sold online and in retail stores.
