Pochettino uses untested 18-year-old Spurs defender in training ahead of Champions League final

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has been using younger players to bolster his training sessions with one talented teenager getting his chance to impress.

Spurs have asked some of their academy players who aren't involved on international duty to postpone their summer break by a week or two in order to bolster numbers in first team training and allow the players to take part in more match scenarios and in-house friendly games.

Pochettino has been trying to keep up the match fitness of his players in the three-week break between their final Premier League match against Everton and the Champions League final against Liverpool in Madrid on June 1.

One academy player who has been taking part in a number of sessions this week and was involved again on Friday is highly-rated 18-year-old Brooklyn Lyons-Foster. Naturally a centre-back, he can also play as a full-back.

Lyons-Foster has been stepping up into the U23 development squad side more often this season from the U18s and he's progressing well as a central defender.

He's made 27 appearances for the academy this season and scored twice, including a big headed winning goal away at PAOK in the UEFA Youth League knockout stages. He also impressed against an experienced Portsmouth side, packed with Football League experience, in the EFL Trophy.

The England youth international's involvement with the first team is a chance to catch Pochettino's eye and could boost his chances of being taken along on Tottenham's summer tour to Singapore and Shanghai.
