Pochettino and Son's emotional moment, an unexpected ovation and those brilliant Spurs fans

Ndombele's party pieces

These were more a series of moments throughout the game as Tanguy Ndombele ran riot against Red Star Belgrade.

He was like the big kid in the playground who the younger children have asked to play in their lunchtime game, effortlessly dribbling around and in between various challenges as they bounce off of him.

It was the skill involved that was eye-catching, with flicks, tricks and turns as well as that body strength driving him out of tight situations.

In one particular move in the first half he was facing the Tottenham goal, about 15 yards outside of his own box with a couple of players around him. He managed to flick the ball behind him, spin and break away from both his markers. He was only stopped when another Red Star player came in and hacked him down.

The exciting thing for Spurs fans is that Ndombele is only going to get better as he adapts more and more to his new surroundings.

Son's celebrations or lack of

You'd expect nothing less from Son Heung-min after a week in which he clearly felt so awful after the tackle that would eventually lead to Andre Gomes fracturing and dislocating his ankle at Goodison Park.

Son is a polite, friendly, unassuming guy and by far the most popular player at the club. You'll see him laughing and joking with a different team-mate most days.

So in the aftermath of the Gomes accident, having seen his tears on the pitch at Everton and knowing how down he was the following day, he was always going to have a plan if he scored.

It was a simple one. As soon as he hit the back of the net, there was no celebration. He walked over to the nearest camera, put his hands together in a praying motion and looked straight down the lens.

It was a message for the stricken Gomes, a very public apology to the man who, after his successful surgery on Monday, will thankfully return to full capacity after his long period of rehabilitation.

Son's second goal also brought with it a lack of celebration, just a simple heart shape with his hands aimed at the travelling Tottenham fans for their support in recent days.

Those noisy Spurs supporters

All the talk before the game had been about Red Star's fearsome Rajko Mitic Stadium with its deafening crowd and intimidating atmosphere.

In the end it really wasn't that bad. It was certainly noisy in the stands at times, but the distance from the fans to the pitch was so long because of the wide running track around it, that the Spurs players didn't really seem that bothered.

It wasn't as if the Red Star supporters were in their face, screaming at them.

They also had their own weapon in the 800 travelling Tottenham fans who made enough noise of their own.

Spurs' contingent of fans who make the trips to the continent, shelling out for every single European game, are a hardy bunch and they're not there to be outsung.

They sang throughout and as the Red Star fans' enthusiasm waned as the goals flew in so all you could hear in this 'hostile atmosphere' were the Tottenham chants booming into the night.

Unexpected applause

When Son left the pitch in the second half, substituted before he had managed to grab his hat-trick, it wasn't just the Tottenham fans who applauded his efforts.

The travelling faithful sang his name but elsewhere around the ground were pockets of Red Star fans standing and applauding his efforts against their team.

One Serbian journalist even stood up in the press box and gave the South Korean star an ovation.

Red Star might have been beaten heavily on a disappointing night for their team, but they know quality when they see it.

A touching moment for Pochettino and Son

There was a poignant moment after the match was done when both Pochettino and Son walked across together to the Spurs fans who had made the trip to Belgrade to applaud them together.

The supporters responded first by singing 'Nice one Sonny' and then as the duo began to walk away they boomed out 'Mauricio Pochettino, he's magic you know'. The Spurs boss turned around at the halfway line and applauded them again.

It's been a tough time for both men recently and it will have been important for them to feel the love from the travelling Tottenham faithful.
