PMQs turns Liverpool FC's victory into the world's most tortured Brexit metaphor

Theresa May could take tips from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp about getting a good result in Europe, according to Jeremy Corbyn .

The Labour leader drew upon Liverpool's stunning comeback at Anfield to defeat Barcelona 4-3 on aggregate, having trailed 3-0 after the first leg, as he took aim at the Prime Minister.

Speaking at Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Corbyn, who is an ardent Arsenal fan, paid tribute to Manchester City for their Women's FA Cup triumph.

He then went on to joke: "In view of the amazing performance of Liverpool last night, perhaps the Prime Minister could take some tips from Jurgen Klopp on how to get a good result in Europe."

But Theresa May , who herself is not a football fan, continued the tortured Brexit metaphor.

Smiling, the Prime Minister commented: "When we actually look at the Liverpool win over Barcelona last night what it shows is that when everyone says its all over, when your European opposition have got you beat, the clock's ticking down, it's time to concede defeat actually we can still secure success is everyone comes together."

Liverpool's German manager Jurgen Klopp has said that Brexit “makes no sense at all” and that he believes British people should have the chance to vote again.
