Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha should remain prime minister to finish the task of national reform before the next general election, according to those who responded to a set of questions the premier posed to the public in June.
The findings were revealed yesterday on the government's Thai Kufah Facebook page.
Gen Prayut asked whether people thought they would enjoy good governance after the next election; if that were not the case, he then asked, what would they do. He also asked if it is right to hold elections without considering the country's future and other factors; and finally he wondered if "bad" politicians should be allowed to return to the political arena, and who should step in to fix matters if they caused problems for the country again.
Most respondents thought the next government would show good governance. Should this be lacking, the public should push reforms to solve the matter.
For the final question, most respondents insisted politicians with a bad track record who committed wrongdoing should face harsh punishment and should not be given a second chance.
Nearly 1.12 million people, from June 12 to Oct 27, answered the questions, including 1,091,000 from the provinces and the rest from Bangkok.
