PM Narendra Modi hails ex-Army officer, her dad for taking care of strays in Kota

JAIPUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised Major Pramila Singh, a retired army officer from Kota, and her father Shyamveer Singh for taking care of strays by providing them with daily food and medicines. They spend around Rs 30,000 monthly out of their pockets for the same and ensure sterilization of stray dogs to control their population.

‘‘My father, a retired superintendent engineer from PHED, has been providing food and medicines to street dogs and other animals for the last 35 years and I also got involved in this,” said the Major who retired from Indian Army in 2019.

Even during the Covid lockdown period, Shyamveer sought special permission from Kota district administration to serve food to these animals.

Giving the credit to her father, Pramila told TOI, “My father is so sensitive to these animals that he and the family despite being pure vegetarians, do not hesitate in giving non vegetarian food to the dogs when required. A street dog suffered from tetanus and the doctor prescribed costly injection of Rs 54,000, but my father willingly provided it the treatment all out of his pocket.”

Rajiv Sharma, a friend in Jaipur, wrote a letter to PM describing their activities and Modi appreciated their work in a letter to her on June 8, she said.

The Prime Minister wrote in the letter, “In the last almost one-and-a-half years, we have faced unprecedented situations with fortitude. This is such a period that people will not forget for the rest of their lives. This is a difficult period for not only for humans but also for many creatures living in close proximity of humans. In such a situation, it is commendable for you to be sensitive to the pain and needs of animals and to work with full potential at the individual level for their welfare.”

The PM further expressed hope that Major Pramila and her father will continue to inspire people with their work by spreading awareness in society with their initiatives.
