PM Modi Visits Tea Garden in Assam Ahead of Election Rallies

Describing tea as the “soul of Assam,” PM Modi emphasized the global recognition of the state’s tea industry. Sharing his experience on social media platform X, he wrote that visiting the tea garden and engaging with workers was “a very memorable experience.” He also expressed pride in the dedication of tea garden families, noting that their hard work has contributed significantly to Assam’s identity and reputation.

The Prime Minister shared several photos from the visit, including a selfie with women working in the tea garden. Assam remains a major contributor to India’s tea production, with the state producing approximately 630–700 million kilograms annually—accounting for more than half of the country’s total output, according to the Assam State Portal.

Following his visit, PM Modi is scheduled to address two election rallies. The first will take place at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district at 11 am, where he will campaign for BJP candidates Ranoj Pegu and Naba Kumar Doley from the Dhemaji and Dhakuakhana constituencies. His second rally is set for around 1 pm in Biswanath district’s Behali, where he will support party candidate and former minister Pallab Lochan Das. Senior BJP leaders and state ministers are expected to attend both events.

Assam is set to go to the polls on April 9, with all 126 assembly seats up for election. The counting of votes will take place on May 4, alongside results from Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, and the Union Territory of Puducherry, where elections are being held during the same period.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has been in power in Assam since 2016, marking the party’s first electoral victory in the state.
