PM Modi interacts with CEOs of oil & gas sector

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday interacted with chief executive officers (CEOs) and global experts of oil and gas companies.

The meeting is being attended by chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani, chairman and CEO of Rosneft Dr Igor Sechin, Saudi Aramco president and CEO Amin Nasser among others.

This is sixth such annual interaction which began in 2016 and marks the participation of global leaders in the oil and gas sector.

They deliberate upon key issues of the sector and explore potential areas of collaboration and investment with India.

The broad theme of the interaction is promotion of clean growth and sustainability.

The meeting also assumes significance amid concerns over rising oil prices globally.

Petrol and diesel prices have shot up to record highs across the country after relentless price increases since early May.

Addressing the India Energy Forum by CERAWeek earlier in the day, oil minister Hardeep Puri expressed concern that high oil prices will undermine global recovery.

International benchmark Brent crude has rallied from $19 per barrel in April 2020 to $84 per barrel at present.
