French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also discussed issues such as the crisis in Afghanistan. File (Source: AP)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic call with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, in a show of solidarity with France that has protested against the U.S.-U.K.-Australia tripartite security alliance (AUKUS), that effectively killed Paris-Canberra cooperation on submarines.

“Mr. Modi and Mr. Macron reviewed the increasing bilateral collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region, and the important role that the India-France partnership plays in promoting stability and security in the region,” an MEA statement said. “Spoke with my friend President @EmmanuelMacron on the situation in Afghanistan. We also discussed closer collaboration in the Indo-Pacific,” the PM tweeted.
