Dibrugarh: Union minister of port, shipping & waterways and AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday said that the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan will provide impetus to 21st century India and will prove to be a game changer for the country.
Addressing a press conference in Dibrugarh, Sonowal said that the national master plan for the multi-model connectivity will help improve global competitiveness, promote manufacturing and modernise infrastructure in the country. On October 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Rs 100-lakh-crore PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan that envisions a digital portal with all existing and planned infrastructure initiatives of 16 ministries and departments for coordinated planning and execution of the projects.
“Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan has been launched in the country. It is an extension of holistic governance which will give impetus to 21st century India. Today’s mantra is work for progress, will for progress, plan for progress and preference for progress. The PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan will address all the issues. It will bring a paradigm shift in decision making and inter-ministry coordination. Each and every department will now have visibility of each other’s activities, providing critical data, proper planning and execution of project in a comprehensive manner,” Sonowal said.“I n last 7 years, more than 9,000 km of railway line has been laid, more than 24,000 km of railway tracks have been electrified. In 2014 the length of the metro track was merely 250 km which has been expanded to 700 km in last 7 years. Another 1,000 km of metro track will be laid. The national master plan has also fixed its target for all infrastructure ministries up to 2024-25. The notable initiatives will be completion of national highways of 2 lakh km and 5,595 km of 4-lane and 6-lane highways by 2024-25,” Sonowal said. He further stated, “ For railways, the target time for 2024-25 is to handle cargo of 1,600 metric tonnes from 1,200 metric tonnes. In civil aviation the target is to double the existing aviation footprint and have a total of 220 airports, heliports and water aerodromes.”
