Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will travel to Russia to attend the Asean-Russia Commemorative Summit on Wednesday and Thursday in Kazan, where he plans to discuss trade expansion, investment cooperation and energy security with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Mr Anutin said on Tuesday that the visit would provide an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Thailand and Russia in agriculture, industry, investment and trade.
Thailand currently imports a wide range of products from Russia, and the government aims to encourage more imports of Thai goods by the Russian market, particularly agricultural products, food and other competitive exports, said Mr Anutin.
Expanding access for Thai products would help create new economic opportunities and support the long-term growth of Thailand’s export sector, he said.
The summit in Kazan, about 700 kilometres due east of Moscow, is being held to mark the 35th anniversary of Asean-Russia relations and the 30th anniversary of the Asean-Russia Dialogue Partnership.
Mr Anutin is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Putin on Thursday. Discussions are expected to cover a broad range of issues, including economic cooperation, trade, investment and energy security.
The prime minister described Russia as a country with significant energy resources and diverse supply options, aligning with Thailand’s policy to diversify energy procurement sources in order to reduce risk and enhance long-term energy security.
“Our discussions will cover all dimensions of cooperation because modern economic relations must be mutually beneficial,” said Mr Anutin.
“Thailand has a variety of high-quality products, including food, agricultural goods and electronic equipment. At the same time, Thailand is seeking new energy sources to support future economic growth.”
