A man has been charged with five counts of attempted murder after a series of stabbings in Plymouth

Three men were found suffering stab wounds outside the Railway Inn pub on Albert Road in the Stoke area shortly before 10pm on Saturday.

Another two women were hit by a car, police said.

Parry Williams, 54, of no fixed address, appeared before Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning.

He was arrested in Ide, on the outskirts of Exeter, some 40 miles from the pub.

The arrest came after armed officers searched an address in Beacon Park.

Williams was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital after his arrest.

All five alleged victims were taken to Derriford Hospital for treatment.

Police said one of the stabbed men suffered potentially life-changing injuries.

Superintendent Roy Linden said the public would see an increased police presence around Plymouth in the coming days.

“We would like to reassure the community, that although clearly distressing, this was an isolated incident and is not being treated as terrorism related,” he said.
