Plymouth shooting victim Lee Martyn remembered as 'true Blue' who loved Everton FC

A dad killed alongside his little girl in the Plymouth shootings is being remembered as a "true Blue" who loved everything Everton FC.

Lee Martyn, 43, was walking with his three-year-old daughter Sophie when they crossed paths with Jake Davison, 22, who was armed with a pump-action shotgun.

Davison had already gunned down his own mum, Maxine Davison, when he murdered Lee and Sophie, and then went on to kill Stephen Washington, 59, and Kate Shepherd, 66.

He also shot an additional man and a woman during the rampage, who survived, before finally turning the gun on himself and taking his own life.

Lee's cousin, Plymouth Live journalist Jess Morcom, described him as a man with the "kindest heart" in a moving tribute shared on social media.

She said: "He had the kindest heart, would do anything for anybody and you only had to take one look at him to see how much he adored his family.

"I was always so proud to be able to say you were my cousin, the world is going to be a much darker place without you in it."

Jess also described Sophie as a "beautiful, funny and clever girl" and said: "I will miss your cheekiness and dancing the most".

In days since the tragedy, friends of Lee have also referenced his love of Everton FC.

The ECHO understands the club are in contact with his family and friends and plan to issue a tribute at an appropriate time.

On Saturday staff at The Anchorage Pub in Plymouth posted a picture of Lee and Sophie online with the caption: "Today at 3pm just before the Everton game starts we will be doing a two minutes silence at The Anchorage as a mark of respect for a true gentleman and his amazing daughter.

"Lee and Sophie were very close to us here at The Anchorage and we all will truly miss them both.

"We all know how much Lee loved Everton so today as a mark of respect all staff will also be wearing an item of blue clothing."

On Twitter, Glyn Fletcher posted: "Please remember Lee Martyn and his daughter who were tragically killed in the Plymouth shooting, a true Blue who loved nothing more than a good football debate with us Reds, RIP YNWA."

Rosie Rodgers described Lee as a "strong Evertonian" and said: "Such a horrific time for his family and our friends and any recognition from his beloved team would be grand".

Since the tragedy it has emerged that Davison, a crane operator, recently had his shotgun licence restored by Devon and Cornwall Police after it was suspended due to an assault allegation.

The Force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Online posts and video blogs by Davison revealed he considered himself an "incel", short for an involuntarily celibate man, which refers to a dark internet subculture defined by men who blame women for their sexual and relationship failings.

The subculture is associated with extreme misogyny which has spilled into violence before, including in the 2014 case of Elliot Rodger, who was the same age as Davison when he killed six people in a shooting and stabbing spree in California.

Police have so far declined to refer to the Plymouth killings as a terrorist incident.
