'Plymouth shooter's toxic misogyny sounds alarm bells that must be heard'

Many questions demand urgent answers after the horrific shooting spree in Plymouth, with a three-year-old girl among the innocent victims.

First must be how gunman Jake Davison was able to go on such a murderous rampage.

How and why was the 22-year-old apprentice crane driver a licensed gun owner?

Why was his gun licence, once taken away by police, returned to him so easily?

And we must consider, too, how much the defence and security company employee was influenced via the internet by US right-wing fanatics who treat women with contempt and prey on troubled, vulnerable men.

The horrors we are witnessing are a humanitarian and foreign policy disaster.

Slashing international aid to Afghanistan must now be unthinkable.

The nation’s decent people need and deserve our support now more than ever.

Adam Feety

Double Olympic gold swimmer Adam Peaty is taking another huge plunge by agreeing to take part in Strictly.

Even an outstanding athlete who triumphed at two Olympics in a row could find himself out of his depth on telly’s most demanding dance floor. We wish him luck!
