Plymouth gunman 'kicked in door before shooting mother and daughter', witness claims

A woman has told of the terrifying moment she says she saw a gunman burst into a house and begin shooting.

Five people, including a child, have been killed in a shooting in Plymouth after witnesses reported hearing loud bangs and gun shots in the Keyham area at around 6pm on Thursday.

The gunman was also killed in the horrifying incident, and like the five victims he died from gunshot wounds.

Witness Sharron Turner, 57, lives nearby to the scene of the shooting in Biddick Drive said she saw the gunman kick in the front door of a semi-detached property before opening fire on a mother and her daughter, who she says looked around five-years-old.

She told the Times the man was dressed in black and grey and armed with what looked like a semi-automatic weapon.

Ms Turner said that after he had shot the woman and the young girl, the man escaped through a park behind the house and went on to shoot two dog walkers.

She said: "We heard a number of loud bangs which I said sounded like gunshots.

"Then he ran into the park and there were further shots. I heard someone say he had shot his brother."

Mr Pinkerton added that he spotted a man tending to an injured women in the doorway of a hairdressers.

Another eyewitness wrote on social media as the incident unfolded: “There’s [a man] on the rampage in my cul-de-sac with a real gun and he’s already shot two people.

“They are laying on the ground. One is dead – blood everywhere. I’m shaking like leaf.”

Three air ambulances landed in a park before heading to a nearby hospital, Plymouth Live reported.

Cordons have been put in place on roads close to the scene and members of the public who live locally are not yet being allowed into their homes.

A Victim Support helpline has been set up to help all of those affected by the shooting on Thursday evening, which was said to be a "very grim day" for the city by Labour MP Luke Pollard.

The incident is not said to be terror related.
