Plymouth estate agency celebrates decade in business as city suburb named property hotspot

A Plymouth estate agency is celebrating a decade in business and the Plymstock area of the city becoming a property hotspot.

Julian Marks Estate Agents, which has offices in Plymstock and Plympton, has been the top performing agent in Plymstock and the surrounding PL9 area for nine consecutive years, according to data collected by Rightmove and Zoopla.

Over a 12 month period from May 1, 2020, to May 1, 2021, the Julian Marks Plymstock office sold more properties priced more than £200,000 than any other estate agency office throughout Plymouth. The firm’s Plympton office, only two years-old, has already become the top selling office in PL7.

Director Julian Partridge said: “We are passionate about property and our ethos is always to have the best people who provide the best possible service. This approach ensures our business stands the test of time, even in challenging markets.

“We feel privileged that families have chosen us - sometimes several times – to move them. They are customers for life and now their sons and daughters are coming to us too.”

Founded in 2011, the firm was established by directors Julian Partridge and Mark Flynn following their respective careers with corporate agents.

Mr Flynn said: “Having worked for corporate agencies, we wanted the opportunity to do it our way. From day one, we put service at the core of our offer and that drove our passion to build an independent agency with a difference.”

Ten years on, Julian Marks boards can be seen not only throughout Plymstock and Plympton but also, increasingly, across the city. More than 16 staff are now employed across the two offices.

Alongside property sales, the rental side of the business has grown organically, managing an extensive range of properties across Plymouth and beyond.

Steve Allen, who runs the rental business, said: “As with the sales side of the business our focus is on a proactive high-quality service, we are regularly recommended to new landlords.”

The firm also employs an in-house domestic energy assessor who carries out all energy performance certificates (EPCs) as well as inventories for rental properties.

Committed to the community, Julian Marks sponsors Plymouth Albion rugby club and supports grass roots sports teams including Plymstock Albion Oaks RFC, Plymstock Cricket Club and Ivybridge RFC.

Mr Flynn said: “Between us, Julian and I have more than 60 years of experience in buying, selling and letting properties. We are totally focused on providing a first-class service and aim to obtain the best possible price for your home.”

Recently, Plymstock was designated a property hotspot by Rightmove. The leading property website named the suburb is one of the most popular areas in the UK, with more than 81% of properties on the market sold subject to contract this year.

Rightmove analysed 300,000 homes put on the market since the start of the year and identified the locations where most properties were sold.

It said four in five Plymstock homes on the market have been snapped up since January, the third highest proportion anywhere in Britain, with an asking price of nearly £270,000.
