Plumber shares 90c trick for quickly unblocking sinks with 'no plunging'

A clogged sink can be a tricky job to fix with grime and scum around the plug hole proving difficult to navigate.

However, the remedy may not require the use of either a service professional or plumber, The Mirror reported.

My Plumber professionals have shared their top tips to help solve the issue through the application of a few simple kitchen ingredients.

A spokesperson for My Plumber told The Express: "Weird smells, strange gurgling sounds, or slow draining water is your sink's way of telling you to get the clog taken care of soon."

But there are ways of sorting the issue yourself and they have shared their five top methods.

Baking soda

Bicarbonate of soda is an easy and non-costly way of freeing a plughole full of nasty grime. It can be bought for as little as 90 cent.

Using the kettle, boil some water and then pour it directly down the plughole.

Use the baking soda and pour a cup directly down too, using a funnel if needs be.

After a couple of moments, add in a cup of white vinegar and give the ingredients time to mix.

The expert said: "Pop the plug back in and let the baking soda and vinegar work like magic in about five minutes. Boil the kettle once more and then pour it down the drain."

Soda crystals

Begin by pouring some boiling water into the plughole and then put one cup of soda crystals in, followed by a cup of hot water and hold on for approximately five minutes.

Pour in a further full complement of boiling water to flush and clean the drain.

Washing powder

This one item, found in almost every household, is one the experts say works really well.

They say to put two tablespoons of biological washing powder down the plughole, followed by boiling water. You may need to repeat a couple of times, if the blockage or build up is pretty bad.

Drain snake

The plumber stated: "It’s the secret weapon for homeowners and plumbers to clear stubborn pipe blockages."

Put the tool down the drain gently and then push the snake until you can’t feed it any further down the pipe. Then use the handle to unravel the coil so the snake finds its way into the obstruction.

When turning the handle, the blockage should start to break up. Gently proceed until no more resistance.

"Rewind the snake back up the pipe and remove it from the plughole. Turn on the tap and see if the water runs down the plug freely. If this hasn’t done the trick, go through the entire process again," the expert advised.
