Plum flowers blossoming early in Atami

Visitors observe blossoming plum flowers Saturday at Atami Baien plum garden in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture. The Ume Matsuri plum festival began the same day at the garden, which says its plum flowers bloom earliest in Japan. The plum festival lasts through March 3, with garden officials saying peak viewing season this year will begin in late January and end early February.
