The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said the Palestinian leadership has set conditions to restore relations with the United States.
It agreed to restore relations in case the new US administration reopens the PLO’s office in Washington and the consulate in Eastern Jerusalem.
Other conditions included rejecting annexation and settlement, supporting a two-state solution, restoring aid, and working with the international community to revive the peace process in the Middle East by holding an international conference with the participation of the Quartet, according to PLO member Wasel Abu Yousef.
His comments were made a few hours after a meeting of the PLO’S Executive Committee chaired by President Mahmoud Abbas.
The Committee discussed restoring the relationship with Israel and Washington, the fate of internal reconciliation, and relations with the Arab neighboring countries.
It stressed in a statement the need to continue working on arranging domestic affairs and bolstering national unity under the umbrella of the PLO as the sole representative of the Palestinian people.
It also highlighted the importance for all Palestinian factions to adhere to the resolutions of the secretary generals of the Palestinian factions held on September 3 on the successive holding of the legislative, presidential, and PLO National Council elections.
The Committee further approved the formation of a preparatory committee with a mandate of preparing for a meeting of the PLO Central Council in light of the prevailing conditions.
The meeting aims at confronting the challenges facing Palestinians and creating the atmosphere to enhance national unity and arrange the internal situation.
Speaking to the Voice of Palestine official radio station on Sunday, Abu Yousef said Hamas has refrained from implementing what was agreed upon in the Palestinian consulate in Istanbul and Cairo meetings, which impeded the reconciliation.
