Human rights organizations, namely International Committee of Red Cross (IRCR), should “urgently intervene” to stop Israel’s “ongoing crimes” against Palestinian political detainees, according to Human Rights and Civil Society Department of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
The Department said in a statement that the occupation authorities deal with the prisoners in a systematic plan characterized by medical negligence leading to their death.
Hundreds of prisoners suffer from chronic diseases and many of them have serious illnesses, such as cancer and heart problems.
This policy aims to get them into hopeless health conditions that lead to their slow death, warned the Department.
PLO held the occupation authorities the full responsibility for the life of prisoner Bassam Sayeh, who suffers from leukemia and bone cancer, as well as a serious heart condition. Prison authorities continue to oppress and deny him the medical attention he needs, aggravating his suffering and that of his family.
It asserted that the international community and its institutions bear full responsibility for the occupation authorities’ practices that crossed all red lines.
The Department called on the international community to stand up to its responsibilities and ensure human rights, treaties and international conventions are honored. It urged them to protect the prisoners within the framework of providing international protection to all Palestinians from the oppression of the occupation government.
Palestinian prisoners reached a preliminary agreement with the so-called “prison services," according to prisoners of Ofer jail.
The agreement indicates prisoners who had been repressed and transferred to other prisons, return to Ofer.
The prisoners informed the administration that the closure of the sections will continue during Friday and Eid al-Adha, to ensure the agreement is implemented and conditions inside the prison are restored to the previous state.
Earlier, forces of the prison services’ special unit, Metzada, raided two sections in Ofer prison, firing tear gas and moving several Palestinian prisoners to solitary confinement to crackdown on a protest, according to Palestinian Prisoners’ Club (PPC).
Five prisoners were moved from Ofer to another Israeli prison, and another 15 prisoners were put in solitary confinement in Ofer. In response, six of the moved prisoners announced a hunger strike.
The Department uncovered the most difficult medical cases of the so-called “Ramla Detention Clinic” such as Nahed Al-Aqra, 51, who is from Gaza and paralyzed.
Aqra has been at the Clinic since his arrest in 2007. Both his legs were amputated due to complications he sustained from an injury. He was not provided any medical care and still suffers from severe pains in the place of amputation.
Raed Balawneh, 44, a resident of Tulkarm, has been suffering from hemorrhoids for more than 11 years. He also suffers from severe stomach infections and needs urgent surgery, however, occupation authorities delay setting him a date.
Tariq Assi, from Balata refugee camp east of Nablus, has a broken hand he sustained after he was assaulted during 2014 while he was in Gilboa detention center. He needs urgent surgery to treat his hand.
In 2010, Assi had a cancerous tumor in the colon which was removed, and Nafha administration refuses his request for regular check-ups to monitor his conditions.
The report also monitored the case of Nisreen Hassan, 44, a resident of Gaza, who has lumps in her chest and awaits approval for medical tests to diagnose her condition.
Rawan Anbar, 23, from Jalazoune refugee camp, north of Ramallah, suffers from high blood pressure and needs medical attention.
