Pleasure & Reality features the works of five leading Australian contemporary artists: Tony Garifalakis, Nathan Gray, Helen Johnson, Marian Tubbs and Justene Williams. Their installations, sculptures, videos and paintings explore the artists’ shared interest in generating new meanings from everyday images and objects.
The works range from Tubbs’ seductive digital compositions to Williams’ hallucinatory performative video works. It also includes Nathan Gray’s multi-channel video installation Species of Spaces 2013–14, filmed in the abandoned spaces of Sydney’s Cockatoo Island, which reconfigures the sounds of the island into an experimental soundscape.
