OUTLANDER actor Sam Heughan has backed a campaign to save a theatre in North Lanarkshire.
The Scottish star, known for his leading role as Jamie Fraser in the Starz series, took to Instagram on Sunday evening to share his support for a bid to save Cumbernauld Theatre.
Heughan, who has 4.4 million followers on Instagram, reshared a post from Cumbernauld Theatre, which is currently fearing for the future after losing "vital" funding from Creative Scotland.
The theatre revealed that it will not receive transition funding from Creative Scotland into 2026, "despite months of constructive talks".
The post from Cumbernauld Theatre reads: "Urgent Update: This is the news we had hoped to avoid. In January 2025, our application for continued multi-year funding from Creative Scotland was unsuccessful.
"Since then, under new leadership, we have developed a sustainable plan that puts the community at its heart and ensures that youth and community projects can thrive alongside a programme of touring theatre and music.
"Despite months of constructive talks, Creative Scotland has confirmed that transition funding will not be extended into 2026."
The statement continued: "Next year marks Cumbernauld’s 70th anniversary as a New Town. We want to be at the heart of those celebrations with a full programme rooted in creativity, community and connection.
"Without urgent support, the 70th year of this town could instead see the closure of this cultural asset for good.

Heughan shared the post on his Instagram stories, writing "Please support!". He added a link to donate to Cumbernauld Theatre trust or sign a petition which calls on the Scottish Government, Creative Scotland and North Lanarkshire Council to work together to save the venue.
