The king’s speech (Report, 7 November) might have had more substance if it had included a bill to ban Christmas adverts and piped music before, say, 10 December. • Our household sticks to British summer time all year round (Digested week, 3 November). This simply means getting up and going to bed an hour before everybody else. The result is that it doesn’t get dark before 5pm, which reduces the horror of long, dark evenings, and it’s easier to stay cheerful.
