'Please no!' - Chelsea fans react after latest Ben Chilwell injury update emerges

Chelsea supporters have been reacting to reports that Ben Chilwell could miss the remainder of the season after suffering a serious injury.

According to a report from the Telegraph, the Blues defender underwent a scan on Wednesday that suggested that he may require surgery, but the club are willing to allow the injury time to heal on its own before deciding whether further action is required.

There are fears that he has damaged his anterior cruciate ligament, and if that is the case, then it could certainly be a season-ending injury for Chilwell.

Chelsea fans, when taking to Reddit, were understandably devastated with the major injury blow.

The report also claims that the best-case scenario still would not see the England international play again this year, while a fresh report from The Times also claims Chelsea fear their star left-back could miss the rest of the campaign.

Chilwell picked up the injury during Chelsea's comfortable win against Juventus in the Champions League earlier in the week and after the game, Thomas Tuchel admitted he was worried about the problem.

"It worries me because he was in such a fantastic moment - like Reece (James) on the other side," said Tuchel of Chilwell in his post-match press conference.

"They were in the best shape they could possibly be, so strong and so confident and with such a lot of quality.

"He was in a lot of pain, now he feels a bit better. He has an examination tomorrow (Wednesday) to be more precise. Hopefully we get away, fingers crossed, with not too bad news."

As Tuchel touched on, Chilwell has been in outstanding form recently - especially in front of goal, with the defender scoring four goals in all competitions for club and country so far this season.

However, it was a slow start to the campaign for the former Leicester City man, who did not make an appearance in the Premier League until the 3-1 win over Southampton in early October.

Chilwell was left upset by the lack of football he played for England in Euro 2020 and he revealed that a heart-to-heart with Tuchel helped him get himself back on track.

He said this earlier in November: “It wasn’t so much mental fatigue. It was more I was so eager to get back playing football, it was maybe coming across that I wanted it a bit too much.

“Me and the manager at Chelsea had a very honest conversation where he did say to me, ‘You know, I feel like mentally at the moment you’re just, in training, you’re pushing a bit too much to try and get back in the team. We love you here, we know the qualities you possess just relax a little bit, you’re going to get back in.’

“For me it was brilliant to hear and then it was just about being patient and making sure that I was ready so that when I was called upon to play I could do my best for the team.”
