Plea to help trace family of Sunderland man who died at holiday hotel

A coroner's office is appealing for help from the public to help trace the family of a Sunderland man who died while staying at a hotel over the weekend.

North Yorkshire Coroner’s Office is asking for help to find the family of Ivan McCormick of Byron Terrace Houghton-le-Spring, Sunderland.

The 73-year-old sadly died while staying at a hotel in Scarborough on August 30, 2020, and officers have been unable to trace his next of kin.

Whenever someone dies, officers contact the person's next of kin, who are usually a spouse or life partner, parent, child, or another close relative that can make funeral arrangements.

Officers are appealing to family members or anyone who might have known Ivan and can help locate his family, to contact them.

The appeal has been shared by both North Yorkshire Police and Northumbria Police as officers try to reach Mr McCormick's family.

If you can help officers locate his family, please contact the coroner’s office on 01609 643123.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Ivan’s death.
