Plea to follow one simple rule when you're shopping

Supermarkets have issued a raft of new rules for shopping thanks to the coronavirus outbreak and the lockdown regulations.

Now Asda has asked customers to follow one simple instruction when out buying their essentials.

It comes as supermarket across the country install Perspex screens to stop the spread of the virus, limit the numbers allowed in store at any one time, limit how much you can buy, change shopping hours and set aside some times for shopping by the vulnerable or NHS staff.

Asda has emailed its customers to give them open simple rule - only touch what you intend to buy.

Scientists in America found that the coronavirus can live on surfaces for up to three days.

Metal surfaces, such as stainless steel, can hold the bug for two to three days.

Plastic packaging could carry it for three days.

That is why you should wash your hands frequently with soap and water, and use hand gel if you can when there are no washing facilities available.

The latest rules from Adsa are...

  • Extra colleagues at the front of stores, to ensure safe numbers in store at all times
  • New barriers and signage to help guide you in and throughout shops
  • Signs and distance floor-markers are there to remind you to keep 2 metres from others
  • Perspex screens will soon be fitted at checkouts, until then please keep your distance from colleagues
  • Some Scan and Go tills are closed to help maintain distances
  • Please only touch items you intend to purchase
  • Use cashless payments wherever possible - contactless limit will be increased to £45 from 1st April to make this easier
