Plea to Everton fans to help over man attacked by gang after Blues defeat

A man was reportedly punched and kicked in the head during a gang attack outside a pub just hours after an Everton match.

The victim has undergone facial surgery, after being beaten up by the group outside popular matchday pub the Winslow, at the junction of Eton Street and Goodison Road, on Saturday, September 21.

A number of men are believed to have been involved in the assault which took place at around 8.15pm, just over three hours after Everton’s 0-2 home defeat to Sheffield United at nearby Goodison Park.

CCTV images have now been released by Merseyside Police of a group of men who they believe could hold vital information on the incident.

Describing the incident as a "vicious assault", officers are asking any regulars at the pub - which only opens on matchdays - who may have witnessed what happened to come forward with information.

The victim is said to require ongoing treatment as a result of his injuries.

Detective Constable Mandy Seddon said: “This was a particularly vicious assault, and we believe the victim was punched and then kicked to the head as he fell to the floor.

“The incident happened several hours after Everton’s 0-2 home defeat to Sheffield United."

She added: "We are keen to hear from any regulars who may have witnessed any part of this incident, or heard about it since.”

Anyone who recognises the men pictured or has any information is asked to contact Merseyside Police social media desk via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook Merseyside Police CC.
