Plea to correct Stirling Castle sign that points visitors in the wrong direction

Visitors on their way to Stirling Castle are often being left in a quandary when they reach the junction of Broad Street and St Mary’s Wynd, a community councillor has pointed out.

Instead of directing them up Broad Street, a sign points in the approximate direction of St Mary’s Wynd , away from the castle.

“You regularly see people coming up from the city centre, looking at the sign and then heading down St Mary’s Wynd before returning after they realise they have gone the wrong way,” Linda Friel said at the meeting on Thursday of Mercat Cross and City Centre Community Council.

“I point this out every year but nothing is done ,” she added.

Stirling North councillor Jim Thomson, who attended the meeting, agreed to take up the issue with council officers.

Stirling Castle is currently attracting almost 600,000 visitors a year.
