Plea made over Nottingham Forest fans as defender gains more transfer interest

Here is the latest Nottingham Forest news on Monday, July 5, 2021.

Fan plea made

League Two side Port Vale are hoping to welcome Forest fans to Vale Park for the Pre-season friendly on June 17.

The game is held just two days before the national easing of restrictions on June 19, with Vale hoping that ‘common sense’ is shown in the decision on if fans will be allowed to attend the game.

“We are very hopeful. That is what we are working towards,” said Port Vale Chief Executive Colin Garlick.

"I am just a bit concerned because the Forest game is two days in front of the national easing of lockdown.

“I just hope that common sense will prevail with the local authority in terms of a 20,000 seater stadium at Vale Park. The numbers we are likely to have there for a pre-season friendly are likely to be probably about 10 per cent of that capacity.”

Championship interest in defender

Huddersfield Town are the latest club to be linked with a move for Forest defender Jordan Gabriel.

The defender spent last season on loan with Blackpool as he helped the club to return to the Championship via the playoffs.

Blackpool are said to be keen in making the deal permanent this summer but are now said to be facing competition from the Terriers.

Johnson prediction

Former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips has backed Brennan Johnson to move on from Nottingham Forest this summer, telling Leeds United to ‘watch this space’ over a potential deal.

The Forest academy graduate spent the season on loan with League One side Lincoln City, where he caught the eye as he helped the Imps to the Playoff final.

The 20-year-old scored 13 times and provided a further 14 assists in 48 appearances in all competitions.

“He impressed me when he played in the playoff games against Sunderland,” Phillips told Football Insider.

“Especially in that first game. He looked very direct and got the goal so he’s not afraid to get forward.

“He travels well with the ball and he’s only young. From a Leeds point of view, can you sign him then loan him out?”
